Welcome to our New Association UIC

After the sudden and heartbreaking loss of our Association Umpire in Chief, Craig Heilbut, USA Softball of Central California has named Alan Blanchard as his successor.

Alan has over 30+ years of umpiring under his belt, with ASA/USA Softball, NCOA fast-pitch softball and NCAA Softball. He has officiated 15 National Softball Events as well as earning the National Indicator Fraternity in 2003, USA Softball Elite Certification in 2016, and WBSC Certification in 2017.

Alan was previously the Assignor for Greater San Joaquin Umpires Association for 10 years, GSJUA Northern UIC in 2013, UIC of Lodi & Stockton, CA 2007 to 2009, an active board member for GSJUA since 2003, and most recently District 7 UIC for USA Softball of Central Cal. Adding to his experience are his various tournaments and National Umpire schools starting as far back as 1989.

We are confident that our association umpires will be in great hands with Alan at the helm.

USACC Annual Meeting Cancelled

In conjunction with the cancellation of our National Annual Meetings, our local USACC Annual Meeting has also been cancelled for 2020.

We look forward to meeting with you hopefully in January for JO Workshops, and if not then, next October!

In these unprecedented times, USA Softball strives to protect the integrity of the game while also providing a safe environment for all involved. The items listed in the “Back to the Ballpark Recommendations” are recommended practices for restarting USA Softball events. State/Metro Associations, Recreational Leagues, Tournament Hosts, Staff, Umpires, Athletes, Coaches, Parents, and spectators shall continue to follow Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Federal, State and Local governmental guidelines.

We will continue our mission to develop, administer and promote the sport of softball to provide opportunities for participation and the best possible experience for those involved.

USA Softball COVID-19 Update

Statement on COVID-19 from USA Softball

With the news of the increasing spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we wanted to inform you that we are taking this situation very seriously. Our hearts go out to those impacted by COVID-19, and we understand the critical importance of protecting those most susceptible to the virus. The safety and well-being of the USA Softball community continues to be the top priority for USA Softball. We are monitoring the situation closely, and we are advising the USA Softball community to follow the guidelines set by the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), your state’s public health department (click here for a listing of state public health department), and other county and/or local authorities including area school districts and government agencies.

We encourage all those that are actively participating in USA Softball tournaments and various activities – including players, coaches, umpires, staff/volunteers, families, and fans – to follow the best practices as outlined by the CDC, which include washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (if soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer); avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands; and avoid close contact with people who are sick. We would also encourage you all to limit close, physical contact with others (including shaking hands).

The USA Softball community should consult the appropriate county and/or local authorities regarding recommendations on how to proceed with large gatherings of people.

Also, if you are ill; have a fever, cough, or respiratory condition; have a compromised immune system; are in any other group that may be at an increased risk of contracting a virus like the coronavirus; or have recently traveled to a country listed on the CDC’s Risk Assessment by Country, we encourage you to refrain from USA Softball-related activities until cleared by your healthcare provider.
USA Softball programs are encouraged to exercise utmost precaution following the guidance of local, state and federal health agencies.

Stand Beside Her Tour presented by Major League Baseball (MLB)
In regards to the Stand Beside Her Tour presented by Major League Baseball (MLB), USA Softball has made the decision to not hold autograph sessions until further notice on the Stand Beside Her Tour. After reviewing the recommendations by the CDC and local officials within the communities we would be visiting, we came to the conclusion that the potential of the spread of infection, no matter how unlikely or remote it may be, could greatly impact the athletes, staff, friends, family and fans. Any type of one-on-one interactions with non-essential game personnel will be limited.

We assessed this situation heavily, and this decision was not made lightly as we know how important the “Stand Beside Her” message means, not only to our team but to our friends, families and fans.

We will continue to monitor the situation surrounding the COVID-19 and will make necessary changes to keep us all safe and healthy. Please note, however, that we are moving forward with our Tokyo 2020 preparations.

As the situation continues to develop, USA Softball will do our best to continue to keep our community informed.

2020 JO Workshop Meetings

The annual JO Workshop is coming up soon!

As always, there will be one meeting on the Coast and one meeting in the Valley so that all leagues can attend! At each meeting we cover the same information so if you cannot make it to the one in your area, feel free to come to the other meeting.

We hope to see a few representatives from each league attending the JO Workshop. We will review important information including registrations, insurance, Fees, Safe Sports & ACE, and any changes that were made at our Annual Meeting in October.

The Adult Tournament Directors meetings will be held during the JO Workshop in Visalia also.

2020 National Umpire School

Dear Fellow Umpires,

I am excited and pleased to announce that we will be hosting a National Umpire School! We have some of the best clinicians that will be instructing us.

USA Softball of Central California will be hosting National Tournaments in 2020 and 2021 in Clovis. Keep in mind that to be considered for an assignment to a National Tournament, you must have attended a National Umpire School within the last five (5) years. Please take advantage of this opportunity to attend a National School while it is being hosted in your own backyard.

Spread the word to anyone that wants to improve their officiating skills. (Coaches welcome!)
